I have been in the HVAC field for over 10 years in NY and AZ. In New York I am a Certified Operating Engineer. I worked in hospitals with huge Absorbers and Commercial units. 1. Have your system professionally checked at least once a year!
2. Change air filter Monthly!
3. Rinse condenser with a garden hose when dusty conditions are present, at least once a season!
4. Make sure insulation on piping is in good condition or replace it!
5. Feel around air handler for cool air leaks and seal with metal tape!
How Air Conditioning works simplified: the air from the house is blown across the evaporator, making the freon inside the evaporator boil. When freon boils, it absorbs heat into the freon like a sponge. Then the freon is pulled outside by the compressor to the condenser, where it does what it says(condenses the freon). When it condenses it releases the heat outside. Therefore, it makes the air in the house cooler by removing the heat from the air! COOL!
